Obituary:
Goodrich, Adaline Miner Posted April 8, 2005 ~ From the files of Rebeckah R. Wiseman:  Relationship: Wife of 1st Cousin 5 Times Removed Columbia City Post, Whitley County, Indiana Wednesday, November 1, 1922
Mrs. Adaline Goodrich, 72 years old, wife of Silas Goodrich, of Thorncreek township, fell dead Monday evening at 8:30 o'clock on the stage at Merriam as she was in the act of crowning Miss Mary Gandy Queen of Hallowe'en. The tragedy brought a sand and unexpected ending of an evening of merrymaking and was witnessed by a large crowd of masked revelers. Mrs. Goodrich had been in good health and had been active in connection with the preparations for hallowe'en, gathering leaves and corn for the decorations. Just as she was about to crown Miss Gandy she fell forward on her face, gasped a couple of times and passed away. Physicians were immediately summoned, but she was beyond medical aid. The body of the deceased was conveyed to her home at Loon Lake. Mrs. Goodrich was dressed as an Indian and was seemingly enjoying the fun as much as any of the older members of the celebration. She had not been sick and no one noticed anything to indicate that she was indisposed. It is believed that the excitement of the occasion and the extra exertion in preparing for the entertainment brought a heart attack and the sudden death. It was a great shock to the large gathering and many expressions of sorrow and regret were heard. Quite a few persons from this city attended the celebration and witnessed the sudden collapse of Mrs. Goodrich. Adaline Miner was the daughter of Samuel and Mary Cannon Miner, and was born in Columbia township on August 16, 1850. In 1875 she married Silas Goodrich, of Thorncreek township, who survives. Since that time she has resided mostly at Loon Lake, where Mr. Goodrich managed the resort for some time. The following children, Esta, at Blythesville, Ark., Roy Goodrich, of Columbia township, Mrs. Nova Humbarger of Merriam, Donald, of Thorncreek township, and three step-children, Mrs. William Keirn, of Columbia City, Mrs. Eli Miller, of Fort Wayne, Mrs. Joseph Blain, of Etna township; and two sisters, Mrs. E. C. Cummins, of Monrovia, Cal., and Mrs. Resin Hawn, of LaPorte, Ind. survive. Mrs. Goodrich was a member of the Ormas Baptist church and was most highly esteemed by a large circle of relatives and friends. She took a large part in the annual reunions of the family, was active in church work and in all movements for the good of the community in which she resided.
